Connecting Across Time
Short Film | Microsite | Printed Materials

“Connecting Across Time” celebrates the people working to protect one of America’s more extraordinary landscapes. A place that connects us to our past, inspires us in the present, and calls us to care for its future.

A Love Letter to the Badlands.

The Badlands National Park Conservancy (BNPC) protects resources for future generations.

Tax dollars alone can’t cover everything our national parks need, so they rely on partner nonprofits. BNPC, the official partner of Badlands National Park, funds essentials like the fossil laboratory staff, visitor center renovations, and major park improvement projects. None of this is possible without donations from regular folks, too.

This film is a reminder that we all have a role to ensure the park’s future. It shares a glimpse of the earnest people working tirelessly to protect this wondrous place.

Badlands Visitors

The Badlands draws visitors from around the world. They’re seeking everything from adventure to inspiration. Conversations with visitors reveal intimate stories, playful anecdotes, and wide-eyed enthusiasm for the park’s aura.

Thunderstorms, wildfires, heat, tacos, and rattlesnakes.

It’s all part of the Badlands experience. Calling this place home during our production was a privilege.

Fresh Produce partnered with the park during a period of historic uncertainty.

Sudden budget cuts and service interruptions created unprecedented challenges. Through it all, park staff maintained seamless visitor experiences and park safety. It’s a testament to the type of people who care for our parks. Places like The Badlands are not guaranteed. We all play a role in their protection.

Differentiation, Authenticity, Love, Connection.

Anyone can enjoy the drive-through beauty, but for some, there’s a deep connection with the land. Authenticity is essential. Badlands visitors don’t come looking for a superficial experience.

We identified and focused on what sets The Badlands apart. We observed striking spires, up-close wildlife, world-class paleontology, and wilderness adventures. We deepened our knowledge of Lakota history and their continued connection to the region. We also found visitors seeking solitude and transcendence.

Themes of protecting a legacy, our shared responsibility for stewardship, and our duty to protect vulnerable and sacred spaces colored the storytelling throughout the film.

Supporting Materials

To advance the BNPC fundraising and awareness efforts, we expanded their visual identity into a suite of digital assets and printed materials. Assets included a microsite featuring the short film, custom business cards, and notebooks for prospective donors.

The continued care of Badlands National Park depends on those who love it most.
